If you are planning to dive in Bali, Tulamben Shipwreck is a must-add to the top of your list!

A Brief History of the USAT Liberty Shipwreck

The beginning of the USAT Liberty was under the sea of Bali, namely when the US Army cargo ship was built during World War II. In 1942, this ship was hit by a torpedo from a Japanese submarine while on duty carrying war supplies. Luckily, at the time of this disaster there were no fatalities, only the ship was quite badly damaged. Actually, various methods have been tried to pull this ship to a safer place, but in the end this ship settled on the coast of Tulamben.

For several years, the USAT Liberty was abandoned on the beach, then there was an incident in 1963 when Mount Agung in Bali erupted which caused an earthquake. The effects of this earthquake were quite influential in pushing the wreck into the sea. But the good news is, since this ship sank years ago, many divers are very interested in visiting it because now there are many corals that have grown which has resulted in this place starting to have marine life. A beautiful underwater ecosystem has been formed because the underwater animals have made the USAT Liberty their home.
